Five SA runners will soon embark on a once in a lifetime experience
In April 2012, five South African runners will travel to London to take part in the 2012 Virgin London marathon thanks to Virgin Money and Virgin Money Insurance like it should be.
Henning Springer, Michael Punnett and Megan Smith won the opportunity to take part in this notorious marathon via a competition published in Runner's World Magazine. Mike Finch, the editor of Runner's World will accompany them along with Zamokwakhe Loverboy Mbhele, a coach from the JAG Foundation.
When Henning from Malanshof, Johannesburg found out he was a winner he said, "This is a dream come true!" Michael Punnett from Edenvale, Johannesburg was as enthusiastic about his win saying: "I've always dreamed of running the London Marathon and I plan to enjoy every step." Megan from Paulshof, Johannesburg also couldn't believe her luck: "It's completely amazing – there are no words, which for me is incredibly rare!"
Zamokwakhe from Ixopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal has been a JAG Foundation coach for over three years at the Qoyintaba Primary in Ixopo. Zamokwakhe, who has never been overseas before, says that he is training hard to prepare himself - both mentally and physically. According to Mike Finch, who first completed the Virgin London Marathon in 2003, "It's a historic event to run and the crowd support is amazing. You really feel like a hero on the day." Virgin Money and Virgin Money Insurance like it should be would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the team and wish them well on this incredible experience.
